Well, the events of the past month have revealed some massive security flaws in the computer systems used by the US Government. Some 4.2 million records (possibly more) of government employees where accessed via hacking, then a week later it was revealed that security clearances where also the target of the attacks. Some sources have also reported that the hackers had access for well over a year.
So in light of all this, every US intelligence and HR organisation will not be using online systems to apply for security clearances but instead rely on the security of pen and paper. The company in charge of the application used for applying for a clearance has taken the system offline for 4-6 weeks as they implement a new beefy secure system. As they say, the show must go on and it’s pen and paper to the rescue.
